wouldn’t it be cool if you didn’t need to try and control your thoughts to feel better?

One of the most liberating things I learned in the last couple of years was that we don’t control what thoughts show up. ⁣

⁣The thoughts that just plop into our heads – plop plop plop** – are, frankly, none of our business

⁣**Ok, sometimes it’s more like SLAM SLAM SLAM)⁣

⁣Oh, the relief.

This is awesome news because managing thought (by thought swapping, reframing, redirecting, thinking positively, engaging in practices, routines and rituals etc etc) is a tiresome, never-ending job that we are really bad at …on account of it being impossible. ⁣

⁣If you ‘solve’ one, there’ll be 37,462 more to take its place in the next 2 seconds. It’s never-ending. ⁣

⁣What if the content of your thoughts didn’t matter? What if you saw for yourself how they plop in and plop back out again, rather easily, when not examined, searched for, messed with, swapped, reframed and all that shit? ⁣

⁣What if the nature that we are part of – you know that force that grows enormous trees from tiny seeds, points flowers toward the sun, regenerates forests after humans have messed with it – knows what it’s doing and it’s got your back, too. You’ll be ‘notified’ if there’s something to be done with an easy sense of obviousness.

What if you don’t need your thoughts to navigate life?⁣

Thoughts are ephemeral, ever-shifting, arbitrary wisps of energy NOT important messages about your worth or abilities. Just like clouds they can gather quickly, appearing ominous and solid. And just like clouds they disperse and fade. Then they come back. And repeat.⁣

⁣But you, my friend, are the sun and the sun doesn’t give a shit what the clouds are doing. The sun just does it’s life-affirming planet-warming thing, untouched by whatever the clouds are doing. ⁣

⁣If you are like “WTF is this nonsense! I need my thoughts to decide what to wear in the morning, to do my job, to make decisions and actually do stuff” then I totally hear you, but wouldn’t it be amazing if it worked a different way?
